SHAUNESTY

About

Shaunesty Shammell Frederick or Shaun is a U.S. Alternative Pop-RnB, Neo-Soul artist. She has been singing for 22 years since she was only 4 years old. A candidly outspoken vocalist/ songwriter who uses her platform to spread awareness on world issues. In hopes that her music can influence change. Coupling her music with activism to create a genre of change.

Originally from Ft. Lauderdale Florida, Shaun was raised in a military household. Therefore she moved continuously throughout her youth. After attending 6 high schools in 4 years she decided to settle in the state of Georgia for college. Fore, it always felt like home. Beginning as a first-generation college student, she became the first of her family to graduate college with a degree. An associate’s degree in criminal justice. Though soon after, tragedy struck her family two semesters into her Bachelor’s degree. Her older brother and fellow recording artist Emmanuel “kingeze” Diamonte Brown passed away at the age of 24 and turned her world upside down. Soon after she dropped out of school and began to pursue music full time.

Music had always been her and her brother’s dream. Unfortunately, her brother was unable to be here to live it with her. So, she made it her mission to pursue their dream and make sure it came to fruition. Not just for her own legacy. But for her brother’s legacy as well. Although her connection to music runs much deeper. Her motto is “I don’t sing because life’s been easy, and I don’t write it if I don’t believe it.” Fueled by the trauma of past experiences and optimism for a better future, her music became both her therapy and her strength. Inspired by iconic artists such as Whitney Houston, Keke Wyatt, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Jazmine Sullivan and so many more, her sound is not only ground-breaking, it is pure and genuinely original.
